Student Conduct Hearing Process

  1. A written notification of a scheduled hearing with a student conduct officer(s) will be sent by post mail and by emailed to you at your local address on record and your official Shippensburg University email address.  This meeting will be scheduled around your class schedule.
  2. Upon arrival, the student conduct officer will request your student I.D.
  3. The student conduct officer will then ask you if you understand why you have been invited to a hearing.
  4. You will be given a Philosophy of Discipline and Student Rights to read.
  5. The documented incident report will be read in its entirety.  You may then ask questions, dispute the facts, add comments for clarification, or remain silent.  Your cooperation is greatly appreciated and it is better to be honest than to risk further violation of the honesty policy.
  6. The student conduct officer will ask you questions to gain clarity of the incident.
  7. If the student conduct officer determines that you are not in violation, the charges will be dismissed.  If the student conduct officer determines that you are in violation, a sanction will be issued at the end of the hearing.
  8. The student conduct officer may ask you questions regarding your overall experience at Shippensburg University and the necessary changes you anticipate that will help you avoid further violations of the Code of Conduct.
  9. The student conduct officer will issue a sanction, based on any previous violations that may be in your student conduct record.  If you do not agree with this decision, you do have the right to an appeal.
  10. The student conduct officer will answer any questions you may have about your sanctions or the appeal process.
  11. You will be notified of the findings in writing within ten business days after the hearing.  The decision letter will explain the rationale for the decision of the student conduct officer and will include a complete description of the sanctions and stipulations.  Information on the appeal process is also in this letter.
