The District serves approximately 3,400 students in Cumberland and Franklin Counties. Visitors to Shippensburg will notice the town's historic architecture, growing economy, and the Shippensburg University. The School District is proud of its students and staff. A new 4th and 5th grade elementary school is currently under construction in order to handle the current and expected growth in the community. Shippensburg is a great place to live and work.
Shippensburg University
Shippensburg University, nationally recognized for providing
its students with an education of excellence, has served the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the region for 132 years.
During its history, the university has evolved to meet the
ever-changing needs of our students and of society. The university
offers bachelor's and master's degree programs in three colleges:
Arts and Sciences, John L. Grove College of Business, and Education
and Human Services. The university also has an Office of Academic
Programs and Services helping, among others, students who are
undecided as to a major.
Shippensburg programming combines both the theoretical and
the practical. Students will develop their intellectual abilities,
such as analytical skills, as they obtain professional training
in various fields. The foundation of the undergraduate curriculum
is a required core of courses in the arts and sciences. These
courses prepare students to think logically, read critically,
write clearly, and verbalize ideas in a succinct and articulate
manner; they also broaden students' knowledge of the world,
past and present.
The university also encourages students to participate in its
wide-ranging co-curricular programming. These programs include
visits by internationally-known individuals as well as campus-based
initiatives such as an active undergraduate research program.
Shippensburg University is located in the Cumberland Valley
of southcentral Pennsylvania on 200 acres surrounded by a vast
array of cultural and recreational sites. The campus is within
an easy drive to major metropolitan areas such as Washington
DC, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
