Program Description

The graduate certificate program in Adlerian studies allows professionals from various disciplines to learn how the principles and methods of Adlerian Psychology (also known as Individual Psychology) can be used in their areas of expertise such as: counseling, psychology, education, administration, business, criminal justice, and social work. Alfred Adler’s contributions to the field are based on the need to understand individuals within their social context. Mutual respect, social equality, holism, cooperation, lifestyle, purposive behavior, goal orientation, encouragement, family constellation, and social interest, are just some of the principles. In each course the instructor will present the major concepts related to the course topic and students will be involved in experiential activities that will allow them to apply the principles in their own settings and disciplines. The interdisciplinary makeup of the classes will provide an enriching learning experience and represent the current inter-professional work environment.

Certificate Requirements

Students will complete a minimum of 12 credits with at least a 3.00 GPA to satisfy the requirements for a graduate certificate in Adlerian studies. The courses will be offered in one, two, and three credit modules in a variety of configurations: weekend courses, condensed semesters, and traditional formats.
