Admissions and Application Information for Cohort
- Applicants to the school counseling concentration are expected to have a minimum of a year’s experience working with children (for example, as a teacher, probation officer, child protective services worker, etc.).
- A minimum 3.0 QPA is required in undergraduate degree work from an accredited institution. This QPA is the minimum required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Completing the GRE or MAT is, therefore, not an option for applicants to this program.
- Applicants are required to submit a resume, three references on department forms, and supplemental data forms. You must apply by using a paper application with the M. Ed. CNS (Elem.)/HBG or M. Ed. CNS (Sec.)/HBG code on it. Do not apply online!
- Application fee is $30.00.
- Application deadline is two weeks before the Interview dates as listed below. Applicants are encouraged to apply early.
- If the applicant meets the initial requirements, the Admissions Committee will invite the applicant for an interview. Interviews are tentatively scheduled for May 19th, 2007 and a second interview date will be held in late June or early July. Applicants who are invited to the interview will be evaluated with respect to personal integrity, professional attitude, capacity to communicate, and appropriateness of counseling as a career choice. Final admission decisions for the cohort will be made on a competitive basis and students will be notified two weeks after the last interview date, if there is sufficient enrollment to begin the cohort.
- Students applying for this program must pass the Pre-Professional Skills Tests (reading, writing, and mathematics) required by the Pennsylvania Department of Education. Successful candidates will be provisionally accepted until they pass these tests. Provisional acceptance allows students to register for courses, but will only remain valid until the time of candidacy at the end of Phase I. If students have not passes these tests by the time of candidacy, they will be dismissed from the program.
