Shippensburg University Announces New Master of Social Work (MSW)
Millersville and Shippensburg University, in a historic joint arrangement, began offering an MSW program in Fall 2006. The joint program includes a mix of traditional campus based instruction and distance education technology and allows students to take courses at the campus of their choice.
Students are admitted into the 36-credit Advanced Standing Program and the 60-credit Regular Admission Program during the summer term only. Applications will be accepted until the program is full. Notice will be posted on the program website at that time.
The program was designed according to Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) accreditation guidelines. During their February 2008 meeting, the Commission on Accreditation of CSWE voted to grant our program a second year of candidacy status. This is a major step in the process, and is seen as CSWE’s statement of support for our program’s development. Final accreditation approval, which follows after a draft self study and full self study and site visit occur over the next two years, is retroactive to all students who have entered since the Fall of 2006. Initial accreditation is expected in the 2009-2010 academic year.
