Ship student veterans host 9/11 ceremony

SVA911ArticleThe Shippensburg University Student Veterans of America (SVA) hosted the Ship community this morning during a 9/11 memorial ceremony. The ceremony featured the Shippensburg University ROTC color guard, a moment of silence and the reading of names of victims from Pennsylvania and Flight 93. A total of 2,996 American flags were placed in the quad to honor each life lost that day as well.

“The tragic acts that transpired 16 years ago inspired many young men and women to enlist and serve their country, many of which go to Shippensburg. Today we gathered to remember those whom were taken too soon and to honor families who lost loved ones,” said Spc. Gabrielle Willard,  SVA president.

The names included Steven Jacoby ’79, who was on Flight 77 on Sept. 11, 2001, when it was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon. Jocoby was a vice president and chief operating officer for Metrocall, a wireless communications company. He was survived by his wife, Kim, and three children.

Today the Ship community remembers and honors all of those lost on Sept. 11, 2001 and we thank our military and first responders who continue to serve bravely.
