Reading School District superintendent and Ship alumnus to speak at commencement
Dr. Khalid Mumin ’95, superintendent of Reading School District, will speak at Shippensburg University’s undergraduate commencement ceremony on December 14.
For over twenty years, Mumin has served in various capacities as a teacher, dean of students, principal and central administrator.
He earned a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Education in Teaching and Curriculum from Pennsylvania State University, a Bachelor of Arts in Secondary English Education from Shippensburg University and an Associate of Arts in English from Northeastern Christian Junior College.
The strength in his leadership revolves around being a student-centered educator, who has a vision of success for all students and a belief that building positive relationships through cultural competencies is paramount in promoting student success. Mumin has a successful historyof illustratingexcellent leadership skills and has been recognized nationally as a “School Board Savvy Superintendent.” He also has received several awards, including Superintendent to Watch from the National School Public Relations Association in 2016, Champion for Youth from the Mentors for Berks in 2017, Excellence in Educational Leadership from Boscov’s in 2016, Courageous Institution Award from the Mid-Atlantic Equity Consortium in. 2017, Amigo Award from the Daniel Torres Centro Hispano in 2017, Innovative School Leader from the Pennsylvania School Boards Association in 2018 and the Jesse S. Heiges Distinguished Alumni Award from Shippensburg University, 2019.
The ceremony begins at 11:00 a.m. in Heighes Field House. Tickets are not needed to attend the ceremony. Doors open at 9:00 a.m., and guests must be seated by 10:30 a.m.
