President Ruud appointed to national effective leadership commission
University President William N. Ruud will serve a three-year term as a member of the American Council on Education’s Commission on Effective Leadership. His appointment is from this July to June 2011.
According to ACE, the commission provides guidance for the ongoing development of the Center for Effective Leadership’s programs and directs new initiatives to foster institutional effectiveness. It is also a forum for member presidents to explore issues and share insights and personal experiences in leadership, leadership development and institutional effectiveness as they advise ACE about its programs and directions.
“I look forward to being able to share with — and learn from — colleague presidents and higher education leaders from around the nation,” Dr. Ruud said. “This is a great opportunity to highlight the many successes of Shippensburg even as I have the chance to learn some of the best practices from other institutions. I’m honored to be asked to serve.
Ruud, Shippensburg’s 15th president, joined Shippensburg from his position as professor of management, policy and strategy at California State University, Stanislaus, where he also was vice president for development and university relations. He also served as executive-in-residence in the office of Idaho Governor Dirk Kempthorne while on leave as vice president for institutional advancement at Boise State University. He began his academic career as an assistant professor of management at the University of Toledo in 1981.
Ruud earned a bachelor of science degree in public administration and hospital administration from the University of North Dakota and both master’s and doctoral degrees in organizational behavior from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
He also served in positions with Northwestern Louisiana State University, the U.S. Army Research Institute and Central Michigan University before joining the faculty at the University of Toledo where was served in the numerous positions including as associate vice president for student affairs, and interim dean of the College of Business Administration, a position he held before being hired as dean of the College of Business & Economics at Boise State University in 1993.
Shippensburg University
