Resources and Equipment
The Department of Geography & Earth Science is located in Shearer Hall and has a collection of equipment and resources for use in class and student research. On the second floor, the department maintains a soils laboratory and a water lab for analysis of water samples. On the ground floor, there are two computer laboratories - the GIS Laboratory and the Ford Laboratory. These computer laboratories are equipped with current software packages for remote sensing and geographic analyses using ERDAS Imagine and ARC GIS software. In addition to these resources the department has a large supply of field equipment that includes electronic total stations, soil/sediment samplers, water quality analyzers, stream gauging equipment, various geophysical tools including ground penetrating radar, electrical resistivity, and electrical magnetics equipment.
