PA Alliance Teachers Receive National Recognition
Two PA Alliance teachers were recognized by the National Council for Geographic Education at the National Conference on Geographic Education meeting in Portland, Oregon in early August. Kristy Snider, Clear Run Intermediate School in Tobyhanna and Lisa Draper, Nitschmann Middle School in Bethlehem, were selected to receive this prestigious award. Only 13 K-12 teachers nationwide were presented the 2011 NCGE Distinguished Teacher Award! Both Kristy and Lisa are exceptional classroom teachers and energetic ambassadors for geography. Both work tireless promoting Geography Awareness Week as well as serving the PA Alliance on the Alliance Steering Committee. Congratulations to both Lisa and Kristy for this honor!
PA Alliance Developing Strategic Plan
Members of the PA Alliance Steering Committee met for a two day retreat in June to draft the initial version of our Strategic Plan. National Geographic Education Foundation is encouraging all state Alliances to develop a strategic plan in order to more effectively meet the needs of geography education in each state and to work toward achieving the National Geographic goal of creating a geographically literate population by 2025. If you have an interest or expertise in strategic planning, Jan Smith would love to hear from you. You can reach her at jssmit@ship.edu
