Lehman Library provides access to resources, learning spaces, and instruction that contribute to the fulfillment of the mission of Shippensburg University

Librarians and staff of Ezra Lehman Memorial Library share Shippensburg University's commitment to student learning. We support the development of information literate students. An information literate individual is able to:

  • Determine the extent of information needed
  • Access the needed information effectively and efficiently
  • Evaluate information and its sources critically
  • Incorporate selected information into his or her knowledge base
  • Use information effectively to accomplish a specific purpose
  • Understand the economic, legal, and social issues surrounding the use of information
  • Access and use information ethically and legally

Librarians believe that information literacy forms the basis for lifelong learning. It is common to all disciplines, enabling students to master content, extend their investigations, and assume greater control over their own learning.  Discipline-specific information literacy instruction reveals to students a system of communication, publication, and information ethics specific to their chosen field of study.  Librarians welcome the opportunity to collaborate with faculty in designing and supporting both introductory and discipline-specific assignments that strengthen the competency of Shippensburg University's students.
