The Shippensburg University Library employs about 35 student workers each semester. These student assistants are essential to the daily success and operations of our library; without their assistance, many of our library services would not occur. Some of our students work in the library all four years they are students at our university; others may work less. Each one of our student assistants is a valuable asset to the mission and services of the library.

To recognize our 2008 graduating student assistants, we created a display focused on them. We asked our students to answer several questions for us: "What library resources were helpful for you in your studies at Shippensburg?" and "How have you benefitted from your work experience in the library?"

Thanks to all our graduating student workers! We value all your contributions to the library’s success!

bardenKatherine Barden (Serials Department, 4 years)

Hometown: Towanda, PA
Major: English
Minors: Business, Spanish

Resources: I definitely use the online databases the most, MLA International Biography and Project MUSE. I also have gotten out quite a few movies from the MCC, but that's for fun, not studies.

Experience: I've met a lot of great people, and I think my organizational skillshave improved from working here. I’ve gained more organizational skills and the ability to get my duties done on my own freely, without constant supervision.

Resources: Ihave utilized the library to the fullest. I have used the databases for the research for my classes. EZ borrow is the only resource which I have been using almostmy whole college life.I have been able to get hold of books without buyingthem.I also regularly check out books andmedia from the library.

Experience: Although this work is a part of the work-study program, I always felt as if I was in a class and not at work. I do not know the obvious reason. But all the experiences for the past three years have affected my life in some ways.

saienniJessica Saienni (Circulation Desk, 2 1/2 years)

Hometown: Landenberg, PA
Majors:Geo-Environmental Science, Teacher Certification

Resources: I completed my bachelor's degree at Shippensburg in Geo Environmental Science. Along the way I have had to complete extensive research projects. At the library I was able to use books and online resources such as EBSCOHost. My graduate career inGeo Environmental Science and teacher certification, I have used mostly teacher education journals in the Periodicals section

Experience: Through working at the library, I will be able to take my knowledge into my career of teaching. When I assign my students research projects, I will be able to guide them better to what they need. I have learned to work with a diverse group of students and accommodate people's needs. I have also learned that you may not get along with everyone and you will have bad days, but you should always try your hardest and try your best. Show the world your smile and it will brighten anyone's day.
