President Ruud's message for 2007 Swataney

Welcome to Shippensburg University and the start of the 2008-09 academic year. Whether you are a new student or a senior returning ready to graduate, you will see a number of changes on campus that will make this an exciting year for you and the university.

The new student recreation building has become a vital part of student life on campus where you have the opportunity to lift weights, run, do yoga or play a pickup game of basketball, racquetball or volleyball. This great facility also provides you a chance to meet with friends and enjoy time together.

Dauphin Humanities Center and its new addition just opened this summer and is quickly becoming a hub of academic and student activities. In addition to serving as the site for many classes in the College of Arts and Sciences, it also offers the chance for students to meet formally and informally, and for you to meet with your faculty members. Please visit the building and take advantage of the new facility.

Work is progressing on the renovation and expansion of Reisner Dining Hall and when it is completed next year, it will be world class. This dining facility will be one of the first in the nation with made to order dining and it will provide additional seating and even better food options. Please bear with us during the project.

We're also excited about planned work on the Ceddia Union Building and Lehman Library that will provide a living-learning atmosphere that enhances the best features of both buildings.

As busy as we've been with many facilities projects, we also continue to enhance the academic programming and the support services you need. Remember, everything we do here at Shippensburg is designed to help you succeed, and I know that you will.

I encourage you to become an active member in the campus family, to stop into the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center during the coming season, to volunteer your time to help others, and to reach your potential.
I hope to see you during the year, and I invite you to stop by one of my regular meetings with students throughout campus or send me an e-mail with your ideas and suggestions. Best wishes for the new year.

Sincerely,

RuudSignature
