Graduate Commencement Ceremony and the Reception
All graduating master’s degree candidates and their guests are invited to attend the Graduate Commencement Ceremony and the Reception. The ceremony will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 9, 2008, in the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center, and the reception will follow immediately after in the Ceddia Union Building (CUB).
Academic robes are required for everyone participating in the academic procession and program. You may purchase your graduation attire at the University Store in the Ceddia Union Building.
On the evening of the 9th, it will be important for you to plan to arrive no later than 6:45 p.m. Please wear your robe to the ceremony and carry your hood and cap. You will want to lock your personal belongings in your car before entering the building, or give them to one of your guests, or check them upon arrival. You will be able to check your coat in the lobby. Next, pick up your card (with your name, degree, and procession number) at the registration table in the first floor lobby and then assemble in the second floor lobby. Commencement marshals will be on hand to assist you. Guests will be encouraged to enter the auditorium from the first floor lobby to find unreserved seats.
A diploma cover will be given to you at the ceremony. If you have met all requirements for graduation and do not have any holds on your account, you will be able to pick up your diploma at the reception following the ceremony in the CUB. Otherwise, your official diploma will be mailed to you two to four weeks after graduation. Diplomas and diploma covers will be mailed to students who are unable to attend. Students who have holds on their accounts will receive diplomas after holds are removed. “Financial Hold” information is accessible on info.ship.edu. An official copy of your final transcript will be available two weeks after final grades are received; you may request additional copies from the Registrar’s Office website at http://www.ship.edu/admin/registrar/transcripts.html
We hope that the Commencement Ceremony will be a time of celebration and fellowship for everyone and that you will be able to join us. Feel free to call us at 717-477-1148 if you have any questions. In order to plan effectively for the evening of the 9th, we ask that you RSVP by Friday, April 25. No tickets are needed for the Graduate Commencement Ceremony.
