Student Requirements

  • Professional duties and responsibilities must be directly related to the student's major and must be approved by the department chair and the director of the Business Internship Program.
  • Student must have achieved upper division status and possess a minimum 2.0 grade point average in business courses, major, and overall. Sophomores must have 45 credits and a 3.0 cumulative GPA or better.
  • Three credit internships require a minimum of 120 work hours.
  • Letter-graded internships are available for six and nine credit hours. Six-credit internships start at 240 hours and nine-credit internships require a minimum of 360 hours.
  • Internship positions may be established for the summer term (mid-May to late August), fall semester (late August to mid-December), or spring semester (mid-January to early May). Internships are not available during the winter term.
  • Internship positions may also be established on a part-time basis over the course of one or two semesters or the academic year.
  • Internship positions should be for pay except for opportunities with nonprofit organization.
  • You will need to take the initiative to search for an internship. You are more than welcome to stop by GRH 317 and speak with the director of the Business Internship Program to seek advice or follow the guidelines to search for active internships.
  • Contact prospective internship employers by telephone or by cover letter/resume (see Available Resources and Information) and try to schedule interviews with employers of interest.
  • Once an approved internship has been secured, contact the Internship Program Office to officially register for internship credit. Internships must be scheduled before the end of the add/drop period for that semester.

Student Intern Responsibilities

  • Meet the responsibilities and duties of the internship position as defined by the employer.
  • Read InternQube, by Michael True (ISBN: 978-0-615-46453-4 - available at the bookstore). This text is designed to prepare you for your internship experience.
  • Submit a 3- to 5-page paper about the above text to your faculty supervisor and the Assistant Dean no later than 2 weeks after the start of the internship.
  • Maintain a daily log briefly describing the tasks, responsibilities, and work-related experiences and submit to your faculty supervisor.
  • Submit a 1- to 2-page summary of the job to your faculty supervisor by the first day of each month during the internship semester.
  • Submit a 3- to 5-page summary report at the conclusion of the internship experience to both your faculty supervisor and the director of the Business Internship Program.
  • Complete an evaluation at the conclusion of the internship.
  • Additional responsibilities are required for 6- and 9-credit (graded) internships.
