Pi Sigma Alpha
Pi Sigma Alphais the national political science honor society. It was founded in 1920 at the University of Texas for the purpose of bringing together students and faculty interested in the study of government and politics. Shippensburg University's Theta Gamma Chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha was chartered in 1977. The honor society is open to Political Science and Public Administration majors in their Junior or Senior years of college. Members must have completed 12 hours of Political Science coursework and have a minimum 3.0 QPA.
Shippensburg's Theta Gamma Chapter was named by the Pi Sigma Alpha national office as Chapter of the Year for 2011/2012:
Pi Sigma Alpha members take part in social and philanthropic activities meant to engage the political science student. In 2006 we took a field trip to New York City to see The Daily Show With Jon Stewart, held a State of the Union Party, ran a road race which raised money for our scholarships, hosted a Silent Auction fundraiser which raised money for our events, and inducted 15 members into the society.
Interested students should contact Dr. Alison Dagnes in the Political Science Department for Membership applications and other information.
