Health Professions Articulation Programs

The following is a list of affiliations Shippensburg University has with health professional programs. In most agreements, early acceptance is available to qualified students. Accelerated agreements enable motivated students to enter a professional program before they have completed their undergraduate requirements for the baccalaureate degree at Shippensburg. In the “3+” programs, application is made to the professional program in the fall of the student’s junior year of college. If accepted into the program, credits will be transferred back to Shippensburg at the successful completion of the first professional year, thereby substituting for the senior year at Shippensburg and allowing the student to earn the baccalaureate degree in Biology from Shippensburg University.

Students who are interested in pursuing early acceptance options must work closely with the health sciences advisors to ensure the required courses are completed before beginning their professional education. Students should realize these affiliations do NOT prevent them from applying to any other professional school under the normal procedure and we have had students enter a wide variety of schools among the various health science disciplines over recent years.

Clinical studies in medical technology, histotechnology, cytotechnology or respiratory therapy can be included in the B.S. in Biology program. Articulations (or close informal associations) exist with several professional sites. General education courses and core coursework in biology, math, chemistry and physics must be completed in the first three years at Shippensburg and, after successful completion of an approved clinical program, credits from the professional program will transfer back to Shippensburg to complete requirements for the B.S. in Biology degree. Alternatively, the undergraduate program can be expanded to five years, with the 5th year being the clinical year. By including their clinical education as part of the undergraduate degree, access to undergraduate financial aid remains available to students who choose this path. Shippensburg University students have been well prepared for success in their clinical lab science education for over 30 years and we maintain close relationships with all of our affiliate programs.
