Study Abroad

Wood Honors College students have studied abroad around the world, most recently in Australia, England, France, Germany, Greece, Italy, Spain, and South Korea. Our students also have the opportunity to participate in the following unique Honors study away programs. Scholarships are available to support students’ participation in these programs.

Codey Fickes

"As cliche as it sounds, studying abroad in Norway through the PASSHE Summer Honors Program changed my life. While there, I studied leadership and the Nobel Peace Prize, and environmental stewardship while taking in amazing new experiences and meeting people I will never forget. Words cannot describe how it felt to be standing in the committee room of the Nobel Peace Institute and submitting our official nomination for the 2016 Nobel Peace Prize. Norway is a fascinating country that is doing everything right, and I am happy to know that I can always call Norway "home". As a future educator, I gained leadership skills through studying abroad that I hope to instill in my students as they become future citizens and leaders in our global world. My hope is that one day my students find something they are passionate about and make positive changes in their communities and their world."

-Codey Fickes, Honors '17

The Reach Out service-learning project provides opportunities for Wood Honors College students to apply their disciplinary knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of teaching and learning at our partner school in the Dominican Republic. Shippensburg Honors students develop curricular materials and coordinate fundraisers to purchase needed school supplies. They travel to the Dominican Republic annually to deliver the curricular materials, lead professional development workshops for teachers, and work directly with students at our partner school. More information about Reach Out is available on Reach Out's website.

Partners in the Parks

Partners in the Parks is a national Honors experiential learning program, which offers unique opportunities for Honors students to engage in immersive outdoor learning experiences in our national parks. The week-long seminars are led by Honors faculty and National Park Service personnel and focus on historical, scientific, cultural, and other important elements unique to a given national park. Projects also take advantage of exciting recreational opportunities in the parks to broaden participants’ understanding of the overall value of national parks to our country and its citizens. The schedule of Partners in the Parks programs is posted on the National Collegiate Honors Council website. Information about scholarships is posted on the Northeast Regional Honors Council’s website.
