Checklist for Admitted International Students

Congratulations on your acceptance to Shippensburg University! You're on your way and we couldn't be more excited. Below you'll find your next steps.

Your Next Steps

Step 1: Submit your I-20/Enrollment Confirmation Deposit

International students are required to make a non-refundable I-20/enrollment confirmation deposit of $100 USD. This deposit will be used to confirm your enrollment to become a matriculated student and to cover the processing and delivery fees of your I-20 form. The deposit is payable to “Shippensburg University.” Once you have submitted your I-20/enrollment confirmation deposit, we will mail your I-20 form via United States Postal Service (USPS) Express International to you along with your visa instructions and acceptance packet.

As an admitted student, you may check your application status and enter the required information. After your News and Information page appears, click on "Pay Advance Deposit."

Please note: Only American Express, Discover, and Mastercard credit cards are accepted with a 2.5% convenience fee. Electronic checks can also be drawn from your bank account at no charge. You will receive notification when payment has been completed. Please keep a copy for your records.

Shippensburg University has also partnered with Flywire to offer an innovative and streamlined way to make international deposits and tuition payments. Flywire’s mission is to save international students and their families money that would otherwise be lost on bank fees and unfavorable foreign exchange rates. With Flywire, you can pay from any country and any bank.

Visit Shippensburg’s Flywire site to begin the payment process.

Step 2: Select your method of shipping for the I-20/Acceptance Packet

Packages are sent via USPS Express International and will arrive in four to six weeks. If you wish to have your admissions package delivered to you within two to three days, you have the option to pay an additional fee for expedited shipping. Shippensburg University does not pay for this service. You can pay for express shipping online to receive your immigration documents through an express mail carrier.

Step 3: Activate your Ship e-mail account

This is one of the most important steps you must take during your transition to Shippensburg University. Activating your account will allow you to access all correspondence from this point forward. You must log into the Admissions Portal using your Admissions login ID and password. After you log in, select your Admissions Term under Processed Applications, and then click "Activate your Ship Email Address." The system will then prompt you to set a password for your Ship e-mail account.

Step 4: Log into Self-Service Banner (SSB)

Students who have confirmed their enrollment may access their Ship email account at mail.ship.edu and Self-Service Banner (SSB) at ssb.ship.edu.

You will not be able to send or receive email from your Ship account until you have accepted and confirmed your admission offer.

Step 5: Choose a housing option

Each new student is required to complete one of two housing options upon confirmation with Shippensburg University.

Undergraduate international students must live on-campus. Complete the housing agreement and submit a non-refundable housing deposit of $200 USD.

Graduate international students are eligible for on-campus housing, but it is not guaranteed. Questions about on-campus housing options should be directed to housing@ship.edu. There are also a number of off-campus housing options in Shippensburg and surrounding areas.

Step 6: Complete a medical form

A medical form will be forwarded to all successful applicants following receipt of the enrollment confirmation deposit. Completion of the medical form is required for enrollment. You will not be able to register for classes or be granted a transcript from the registrar until the form has been received.

Step 7: Submit your final transcript

A favorable admission decision is based upon your qualifications at the time of the offer and is contingent upon maintaining those standards through graduation from the secondary school. You must request to have your final transcript (including date of graduation) sent to the Office of Admissions. You will not be able to register for classes or be granted a transcript from the registrar until the final transcript has been received.

Step 8: Complete placement testing

Placement testing may be required in English, reading, mathematics, and foreign language. After admission, the placement testing office will provide you with notification of test dates and which exams must be completed.

Step 9: Pay your semester bill

Your Shippensburg University bill will be available to you electronically through myShip. You will not receive a paper bill in the mail. You will receive an e-mail at your Shippensburg University email address when the semester bill is available. Please contact the Student Accounts Office with any questions.
