Get Involved in the English Department
There are a number of English-related clubs and organizations that allow students to network, pursue leadership positions, have their work published, boost their resumes, and have fun.
Sigma Tau Delta
Sigma Tau Delta is the English Honor Society at Shippensburg University. Registered as the chapter Phi Psi, Sigma Tau Delta aims to motivate students to achieve high standards of academic excellence, exhibit exemplary behavior fellowship among members, and engage a variety of perspectives and aspects of English literature, language, and writing. For more information, contact Dr. Matthew Cella at firstname.lastname@example.org.
The Shippensburg NCTE is a great way for any aspiring English educator to get involved on campus and connect with fellow students in the major. As a member, you will get to participate in discussions and debates on pertinent matters in the education spheres, be asked to bring your own ideas and experiences to the group, and be invited to numerous English education events including lesson planning parties. Along with these activities, the Shippensburg NCTE has also sent members to the national NCTE conferences in years past, which is truly a one-of a-kind experience for any future educator.
Write the Ship is Shippensburg University's Undergraduate Academic Journal. We publish student essays, research, studies, and work from all disciplines. Every issue presents well-written work by students, on a wide variety of subjects, which demonstrate the abilities and interests of a vibrant university campus.
The Reflector is Shippensburg's Journal of the Arts. We publish your creative works of prose, poetry, art, and other writings. Join our club if you like being involved in the creative process, want to learn how to use Adobe InDesign, are interested in publishing, or care strongly for the creative efforts of your peers.
SpawningPool is the smaller chapbooks created by the prose, poetry, and art committees of The Reflector. Each spring, the committees decide on their respective themes and ask students to submit pieces based on that theme. Questions can be sent to email@example.com.
