Sabrina Marschall

Sabrina Marschall, Director of the Learning Centr

Dr. Marschall enjoys working with all level of college students. In particular, she enjoys working with freshman students and adults who are transitioning to Shippensburg.  She has her undergraduate and master’s degrees in business education and her PhD in educational administration. She currently lives in Frederick, Maryland, and enjoys the wonderful company of her 2 dogs and 2 cats.

Mr. Juarez was born and raised in central California. He earned a B.A. in English and History from California State University, Fresno and completed his M.A. in English at Shippensburg University.

Prior to joining the Learning Center, Mr. Juarez worked at numerous colleges and universities, including Fresno State, University of Washington, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Penn State Harrisburg. He has taught remedial writing and has worked in several Learning Centers, including as the Learning Center Coordinator at HACC. Mr. Juarez has also tutored with various programs at Fresno State and the University of Washington.

Mr. Juarez and his wife, Sharon Stockton, live in Carlisle, PA, and have three children, Eugene, Cristina, and Katherine. He enjoys reading, writing, gardening, and is an avid film buff.


Kelly headshotKelly Miner, Staff Assistant

Ms. Miner is a graduate of Chambersburg High School and a life-long resident of Chambersburg, PA, where she lives with her husband, Dane, and her dog, Heidi. She has worked as a teaching assistant for 10 years in the ESL department for the Chambersburg Area School District. During those 10 years, she also coached The Chambersburg Indoor Color Guard who, in 2000, were named East Coast Champions. Under her direction, the Color Guard then advanced to the World Championships several years and advanced to the finals twice.

After joining the Shippensburg University staff, Kelly served for 2 years on the Shippensburg Association of Educational Office Professionals Committee and is currently a member of the Shippensburg University Clerical Staff Development Committee. In her spare time, she enjoys visiting her granddaughter Allison, grandson Sawyer and going to the beach as often as possible. She recently travelled to Anchorage with her husband. Kelly enjoys working in the Learning Center because of the friendly atmosphere and it gives her a chance to connect with students, which she has missed after leaving The Chambersburg School District.


Karen JohnsonDr. Karen Johnson, Director of the Writing Studio

Dr. Johnson enjoys mentoring writing tutors in the Writing Studio, teaching writers how to improve their writing abilities, and integrating service-learning projects into her work on the Ship campus. In addition to her undergraduate and graduate degrees in education, she has also earned certification as a Reading Specialist. Prior to her work at Shippensburg University, she taught developmental reading and English courses at Harrisburg Area Community College and York College. Her favorite activities include spending time with family, traveling, and reading.

 


 

Zack headshotZack Grabosky, Tutoring Coordinator / Learning Specialist

Mr. Grabosky received his A.A. degree in Liberal Arts from SUNY Morrisville and went on to receive a B.A. in English and M.A. in English/Creative Writing at Binghamton University. 

Prior to becoming the Assistant Director of the Learning Center at Shippensburg University, Mr. Grabosky worked as an Academic Tutor/Coordinator of the Test Administration Service at SUNY Cortland. He also taught English at Jamestown Community College, including courses in Composition, Literature, Creative Writing and Business Writing.

Mr. Grabosky, his wife, Tomoko, and their son, Baizhong, live in Carlisle, PA.


 

CindyCindy Murray, Learning Specialist

Cindy Murray’s B.S. Degree from Wilson College is in Biology; with minors in Chemistry, Psychology, and Philosophy/Religion. She performed her thesis research on Stress Induced Illness among College Students.

Cindy went on to earn her M.S. in Psychology here at Ship, where she focused her research on Student Character Traits that contribute to Academic Success among First Year Students. While pursuing this degree, Cindy worked as a Graduate Assistant Tutor here at the university’s Learning Center. She coached students in study and time management skills, as well as directing students toward academic recovery through the AIM plan. 

Cindy has been teaching Environmental Biology for three years here at Ship. She also works as an Academic Advisor for the Office of Undeclared Students, where she helps students to explore major and career choices, as well as helping them to choose courses that fit their career and personal interests.  She has recently rejoined us here at the Learning Center, where she works as a Learning Specialist to assist students with a broad range of academic and social skills that enhance academic performance.

Aside from her official positions, Cindy is actively involved in student service learning activities - the most recent of which is S.U.’s brand new Campus Farm. In her “spare time” Cindy loves music, art, organic gardening, gourmet cooking, hiking, sight-seeing, animals of all kinds, and spending time with her 4 children and 2 grandsons!
