SU is newest weather camera site for abc27 News
Local residents, visitors coming to campus, nostalgic alumni — now you can go online anytime and check out the view at Shippensburg University, which today became the newest weather camera site for abc27 News in Harrisburg.
Just in time for the snow predicted this weekend, a WeatherBug® high-definition camera atop the water tower on the north side of campus went live this morning, and abc27 debuted it during its news broadcast at noon.
“Shippensburg University is now our highest camera perch among the roughly 30 that we have in place across central Pennsylvania. The higher you go, the better the views,” said meteorologist Ryan Coyle.
“The camera allows our viewers a live look at the weather in Shippensburg. Being atop the water tower allows us to see up and down the valley, and the camera can spin in all directions. We’ll be able to track storms and snow and even capture sunsets across the region.”
Meteorologists will be able to follow storms using 50 pre-set views on the camera, including some stretching as far as the Blue Mountain interchange of the Pennsylvania Turnpike, 10 miles north of campus.
“I climbed that tower to scout the location. I can say firsthand that it’s one of the best views we have in central Pennsylvania,” Coyle said.
