A Bachelor of Arts in Political Science prepares you for a variety of careers in government and government relations as well as law or graduate school. The international concentration provides you with the opportunity to add a significant level of specialization to your degree.
What Will I Learn?
In addition to understanding the foundations and dynamics of world politics, you will build skills that will help them succeed in several career tracks. The Political Science Department primarily focuses on three transferable skills:
- Professional communication
- Analysis
- Research
These skills prepare you for career growth, not just an entry-level position.
The substantial material of the program provides you with the background to succeed in careers internationally by contemplating different perspectives and cross-cultural interchanges. The core classes introduce you to world politics and international relations. You will learn about data analysis and clear professional expression in writing and through speech. Later in your coursework, you will receive advanced training in research and writing.

Your classroom experience is complemented by internships, field trips, in-class simulations, nationally-known speakers and job shadowing. Study abroad opportunities are also available and can benefit your academic journey in this concentration.
You can also join the Political Science Club to connect and engage in the debate about politics and current events. Members of the club organize and participate in non-partisan political activities, take field trips to Washington, D.C., and become involved in fun events relating to the world of politics. Ship also has an active chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honor society.
