Placement Testing

What is Placement Testing?

Shipensburg University's General Education program requires students to take various courses to develop certain skills and competencies. The mission of Placement Testing is to determine whether or not students are adequately prepared to succeed in these courses. We determine level of proficiency by testing Math and Writing (English).

The Shippensburg University Testing Center also provides an optional Reading test for students who are required to take Developmental Reading & Study Skills (RDG 050) and wish to challenge their placement in that course.

Registering for Placement Testing

If you are required to take a placement test, you will have a checklist item in your myShip admissions portal. Clicking on that item will take you to a schedule that will allow you to sign up for a day and time that's convenient for you. We offer placement testing most weekdays at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. Some weeknight and Saturday dates are also available. Email or call us (717-477-1014) if you have questions about whether you need placement testing.
