EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES

The Department of Recreation has on-campus employment opportunities available for undergraduate and graduate students throughout the calendar year.

 

 

 

 

 

 

The following opportunities require the completion of an employment application which are available in the below links.  The Department of Recreation only posts the following positions if currently hiring.  Interested students are always welcome to email employment inquiries to rec@ship.edu.

 

STUDENT OPPORTUNITIES:

The following positions are available for both undergraduate and graduate students.

ShipRec Desk Staff:

Staff are scheduled to work at both the entrance desk and the cardio/strength desk in ShipRec. General responsibilities include access management, policy enforcement, marketing and promotion, membership sales, equipment distribution, special event set-up, emergency and incident response, and maintaining the cleanliness of the facility (i.e. cleaning and inspecting equipment). Hours are scheduled based upon staff availability.

Group Fitness Instructor:

Instructors are responsible for planning and instructing safe, fun and effective group fitness classes, supervising group fitness participants, and creating a supportive exercise environment. All classes are held in ShipRec room 107. Hours are flexible around instructor and room availability.  Instructor certification may be required pending type of class.  Email rec@ship.edu for more information.

Rec Sports Staff:

Intramural staff are responsible for the facilitation of all intramural sports activities. Duties include game oversight, officiating, equipment distribution, policy and rule enforcement, emergency and incident response, and scorekeeping. Shifts are typically Sunday – Thursdays from 6pm - midnight. Attendance at staff meetings is required.

Lifeguard:

Assigned to the Heiges Field House pool to cover open recreation swim opportunities for the campus community. Duties include performing life-saving duties as needed, monitoring and enforcing pool rules and policies, maintaining order and cleanliness within the pool area, managing pool access, and ensuring proper opening and closing of the facility. Current lifeguard and CPR/First Aid certification required. The Department of Recreation recognizes the American Red Cross, the YMCA and Jeff Ellis and Associates, Inc. as lifeguard certifying authorities. Applicants should have some availability for the following time periods: Monday through Friday 11p-2p and/or 6p-10p.  Shifts are scheduled around facility and instructor availability.

 

GRADUATE ASSISTANTSHIPS:

Graduate assistantships are available within the department in the areas of intramurals, club sports, group fitness, student employee management, and facility management.
