The Shippensburg Student Alumni Ambassadors are a group of students who serve the university as official hosts and hostesses and provide services ushering at special university events, dinners, and convocations. They also represent the university at alumni meetings and community functions. Ambassadors reacquaint alumni and introduce new students to the campus and life at Shippensburg University. The group plays a large part in the festivities at Homecoming and provides the graduating seniors with an introduction to the Alumni Association by hosting the Senior Send Off.
The ambassadors have the opportunity to develop leadership and communication skills and learn to work as a team. They enjoy social activities as a group and attend a group retreat at the beginning of the fall semester. They also have the privilege to attend the national and regional conferences for the Student Alumni Association (SAA) Network.
High standards are set for membership in the Shippensburg Alumni Ambassadors. To be eligible, a student must maintain a 2.5 G.P.A., complete an application, and participate in a personal interview.
The following statement serves as the creed of the Student Alumni Association and sets the tone for the Student Ambassador Program:
I believe that as a student I have a special relationship with my alma mater that represents a lifetime commitment in the fulfillment of my dreams and aspirations. As a student, I am the focus of her goals and objectives. As an alumnus, I will represent the result of her mission and her embodiment of her spirit in the world. What she is, I am. What she becomes, I become. Because I am the emerging essence of my institution, I will strive to enhance this special relationship between students, alumni, and others, so that the heritage of my alma mater will always be a part of my life- for the present as I follow my dreams, and after graduation as I make them come true.
