Department of Art & Design
Undergraduate Students
Shippensburg University Art & Design Department is a place of learning, personal growth, and artistic development. Our students come from a cross-section of the United States and the world. Some are already serious artists who have known for a long time that they would pursue a career in the visual arts, but for others, art is a discovery they have made recently. Some of our students are intent on earning lots of money in their artistic futures, while others are purely romantic in their love of the arts.
While at Shippensburg, our students are provided with a strong foundation in the visual arts, and are offered opportunities to focus in a studio area like: ceramics, drawing, graphic design, painting, and sculpture. Some Art & Design students will pursue art education certification, and still others will dive into art history. Along with art courses, our students can also pursue other academic interests and organize those courses into a minor. Students choose from a wide variety of general education courses to fulfill their graduation requirements.
Once the sophomore year is complete the art major may elect to spend the junior year studying abroad, at the The Art Institutes (Ai), or at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City. These experiences offer unique career paths, while maintaining the benefits of being a Shippensburg University student. Questions about these programs should be directed to the Chairperson of the Art & Design Department.
We hope you will join our family . . . and begin your higher education in Art & Design at Ship!
