Why a Student May Seek Counseling

College life can be stressful and at times talking to a professional counselor may be helpful. Counseling services are available to help "talk through" a relatively straight forward problem or difficulty, such as:

  • Feelings of depression, anxiety, fear or confusion
  • Poor study habits or difficulties with concentration
  • Adjustment to college and other life transitions
  • Academic and career decision-making issues
  • Family problems
  • Developing and understanding relationships
  • Sexuality and sexual orientation
  • Self-esteem
  • Drug or alcohol abuse
  • Eating and weight problems
  • Grief and loss issues
  • Recovering from trauma or abuse

Many students also seek counseling to provide continuity of counseling support services previously pursued while at home.
