Information for faculty participants for
Winter Undergraduate Commencement Ceremony
11 a.m., Dec. 14, 2013
The Winter commencement programs are Dec. 13 for graduate students and Dec. 14 for
undergraduate students. The graduate ceremony is 7 p.m. in the H. Ric Luhrs
Performing Arts Center and the undergraduate ceremony is 11 a.m. in Heiges
Field House. Information on the graduate ceremony will be shared by the School of Graduate Studies.
Two alumni will present the commencement addresses. The speaker for the graduate ceremony is Cindy Adams Dunn, president and chief executive officer of Citizens
for Pennsylvania’s Future (PennFuture). She received her bachelor’s degree in
1980 and her master’s degree in biology in 1981.The speaker for the undergraduate
ceremony is Gerald. E. Johnson, a 1995 graduate who is an assistant district
attorney in the District Attorney’s
Office of Allegheny County.
Following is information for faculty who plan to participate:
- Faculty Participation: The
Commencement Committee invites all faculty to participate. College deans will poll
department chairs to determine the number of faculty participants to provide an
accurate count for seats.
- Cap and gown: Faculty
members who wish to order academic regalia are asked to contact the University
Store at ext. 1600 from on campus or 477-1600 from off campus.
- Diploma presentation: If you want to
present the diploma cover personally to a family member or other student, send a note with the graduate’s name
and college to email@example.com no later than Dec. 4.
- Guest admission: No tickets are required for general admission to the program. Faculty
who wish to bring a guest may obtain a ticket for reserved
seating from the Office of University Communications and Marketing by send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Dec. 4.
- Guest arrival: Doors
to the field house arena will open at 9 a.m. (or earlier in the case of
inclement weather) for guests. Light refreshments will be available in the
arena. Please have your guests arrive in time to be seated by 10:15 a.m.
- Robing: Please
use the main lobby entrance to the field house. Faculty will assemble by 10:30 a.m.
in the locker room areas. Women faculty will robe in the Lady Raiders locker
room. Men will robe in the main men’s locker room. The platform party,
administrators, special participants, etc. will robe in the Red Raiders locker
- Academic procession: The academic procession will form at 10:45 a.m. and
start promptly at 11 a.m. The mace bearer will lead the processional followed
by the graduating class, faculty, trustees and administrators, and then the
platform party. The mace bearer will lead the recessional followed by the
platform party, trustees and administrators, and faculty. Faculty who elect not
to recess so they may meet with graduates are asked to step aside so other
faculty may continue in the recessional.
