Shippensburg University’s Small Business Development Center (SBDC) will host a program on women-owned small business certification Oct. 16. The program, free and open to the public, is from 9 a.m. to noon in Grove Hall 401 on campus.

The SBDC program provides no-cost confidential consulting and low cost training in proven management fundamentals helping small business owners and potential entrepreneurs make sound decisions for the successful operation of their business. Shippensburg’s center serves Adams, Cumberland Franklin and York counties.

The U.S. Small Business Administration program is presented by George Murray who has has worked for the Small Business Administration (SBA) for four years. In his current role, Murray is a business development specialist focused on government contracting for several counties in the Philadelphia District territory. His primary responsibilities include providing general business assistance to small business owners inquiring about the SBA.

Topics to be covered include eligibility criteria protests, required steps to participate in the program, and the difference between WOSB and EDWOSB (Economically Disadvantaged Woman-Owned Small Business). It will also include a presentation on doing business with the federal government that will provide an overview of how to engage with federal agencies.
