COURSES FOR THE NATIONAL SCIENCE TEACHERS ASSOCIATION
DESCRIPTION AND REQUIREMENTS
One (1) graduate credit may be earned through Shippensburg University for the course EDU496 Preparing for the Next Generation Science Standards – Examining the Practices. Course grading will be done on a pass/fail basis. To earn one (1) graduate credit, individuals must complete the following two requirements:
- Participate in all eight web seminars in NSTA’s Preparing for the Next Generation Science Standards – Practices series. Individuals may participate in either the live or archived web seminars. If web seminar participation is live, complete the survey at the end of the web seminar to obtain the certificate of participation from NSTA. If web seminar participation is through the archived recording, complete the reflection question for that particular web seminar.
- Submit the following materials to Shippensburg University within two weeks of the last web seminar:
- Documentation that you have completed all eight NSTA web seminars: a copy of certificates you received from NSTA for each live web seminar that you completed (one certificate for each live web seminar completed) AND/OR your responses(s) to the reflection questions for each archived web seminar that you completed. NSTA certificates appear in the “my PD Records and Certificate” page in the Learning Center. (Note: You must be logged into the learning center to see your certificates.)
- A 500 word implementation paper that describes how you will implement the Next Generation Science Standard Practices and the information gained through the web seminars.
All materials must be submitted together using the NSTA Learning
Center’s PD Plan and Portfolio Tool. This tool is allows you to create a
personalized plan that outlines your professional development
experiences over a period of time and to upload portfolio materials such
as certificates, word documents, and other electronic evidences. For more information on the PD Plan
and Portfolio Tool, watch this video (you must be logged in before clicking this link). For step-by-step guidance on
using the tool, explore this how-to guide. If you need additional help
