Military Call Up

The Board of Governors of the State System of Higher Education has adopted a policy which will permit tuition refund for students who are ordered to active military service. If the student is activated after the semester begins, a full refund of tuition will be issued.

Undergraduate students who must leave school for military obligations should provide a copy of their military orders to the academic dean’s office. Graduate students should provide a copy of their military orders to the Registrar’s office.

The effect on the student’s academic status depends on the point in the semester at which military activation occurs. If the student will be gone for a limited period of time, it may be possible to make arrangements with faculty to make up missed work. Faculty should be willing to work with any student. At any time in the semester, students who are called to active service will be permitted to withdraw from classes and placed on academic Leave of Absence, processed for a full refund, and issued no grades. Shippensburg University will make every effort to minimize the disruption to a student’s education caused by military service.

Questions concerning refunds and the return of Title IV Financial Aid may be directed to the Student Accounts Office at 717-477-1211.
