Green Dot Bystander Intervention Video Invitation Transcript

Presented By:

Dr. Elizabeth Fisher, Professor of Social Work and Gerontology

Shon-del Delaney, Office of the Dean of Students

Welcome back to Ship and I hope you had an enjoyable and relaxing holiday and are now ready to embark on this upcoming spring semester.

As we begin the New Year and I reflect on the past academic semester, I want to thank you for your amazing contributions to our campus community.

Your dedication and hard work does not go unnoticed and we are truly appreciative of the job you are doing to ensure students’ success.

In May, 2019, 23 faculty and staff from across the campus came together and demonstrated firsthand why Shippensburg University continues to be a leader in higher education.

These individuals attended a four-day training workshop led by instructors from the internationally recognized bystandander intervention program, Green Dot.

At Ship, we want to see a permanent reduction in power-based personal violence experienced by members of our community. In order to achieve this goal, the Green Dot violence Prevention Strategy is designed to create and establish two cultural norms on college campuses:

  • Power-based personal violence will not be tolerated.
  • Everyone has a role to maintain a safe campus.

We are pleased to invite you to attend a 75-minute workshop that will introduce you to the basic elements of Green Dot, focusing specifically on the vital role that campus employees play in establishing and reinforcing the culture within which students exist.

The workshop is designed to help faculty, staff and administrators understand the expanded definition of the bystander and to equip you with knowledge and skills to integrate these key behaviors within your current job functions.

We understand that cultural norms do not change overnight. The Green Dot Prevention Strategy seeks to engage the campus community in new behaviors through awareness, programming, and education.

Please RSVP at the link below and sign up for one of the workshops to be held this spring.

Thank you for your time and I wish you the very best this academic semester.
