Transfer Students

Academic Requirements

As a transfer student, you will be evaluated on the basis of all work attempted at accredited institutions. A minimum college GPA of 2.0 is required and 12 course credits is recommended for admission. To find out which of your credits will transfer to Ship, take a look at course equivalencies.

Some majors require prerequisite courses or a minimum GPA prior to transferring. If you meet the criteria for admission but cannot be accommodated in your major of choice, you will be permitted to select another major or defer admission until a later date.

Documentation Requirements

Contact the Admissions Office to request information or complete an online application right now. You can also complete an online inquiry form. If you are enrolled in a Dual Admissions program, you should not apply online.

Be sure to send the following to the Admissions Office:

  • $45 application fee
  • Official transcripts from each college/university previously attended
  • High school transcript and SAT or ACT scores, if transferring with less than 12 college-level credits

If you are transferring with less than 12 college-level credits, you need to submit a high school transcript and SAT scores along with your college transcripts when applying. An admissions decision will be based on all criteria.


When to Apply: You should apply for admission no later than one semester prior to the semester in which you plan to attend. For some majors such as Criminal Justice, Business, and Elementary Education, you should apply as early as a year in advance.

Application Deadline: You may apply at any time prior to the start of the semester in which you plan to enroll. Please be aware that space is limited in some majors and applying early is the best way to ensure a seat in your degree program. Contact Admissions for specific dates.

Acceptance Status: Application review takes two to three weeks to complete once you apply. The Admissions Office will notify you by email and US Mail as to your acceptance status. You can also check your application status online.
