Shippensburg University homecoming set for Oct. 20-21
Alumni, students and friends will have plenty to see and do at Shippensburg University’s 2017 homecoming celebration, set for Friday and Saturday, Oct. 20–21. This year’s theme is “Ship Is It.”
Kicking off the weekend will be a concert by Heart By Heart on Thursday, Oct. 19, at 8 p.m. at the H. Ric Luhrs Performing Arts Center.
Included with the festivities are opportunities for community service, including the tenth annual SU Homecoming Service Project at King’s Kettle. Participants will meet at the food pantry at 4:30 p.m. Friday to stock shelves. Donations of canned goods and other nonperishable foods will be accepted.
Proceeds from the 38th annual SU Army ROTC 5K or 10K Run, which starts at 9 a.m. Saturday, benefit the Boulder Crest Retreat for Military and Veteran Wellness and the ROTC program.
In addition, the SU Student Homecoming Committee will donate a portion of the proceeds from various events to The Harbor of Shippensburg for the 2017 Community Outreach Organization.
The committee chooses a different charitable organization to support each year; in 2016, more than $12,000 was raised for the Cumberland Valley Animal Shelter.
The Red Raiders will host Millersville University in the homecoming football game at 1 p.m. Saturday in Seth Grove Stadium. It’s a RED OUT, so everyone is encouraged to wear red. Tickets can be purchased at the gate.
The Office of Multicultural Student Affairs and the African American Organization also is hosting an alumni social at 9 p.m. in the Tuscarora Room.
Other events include a kickoff social and spirit rally on Friday night and a pregame tailgate party and postgame dinner on Saturday.
Attendance to some events include fee or registration requirements. For more information and a complete list of events, visit the homecoming website.
