Ship hosts lecture on substance abuse and older adults

Shippensburg University will host a lecture on older adults and substance abuse on Thursday, March 29, at 3:30 p.m. in Shippen Hall 224. The lecture features Kristen Varner ’00, RASE Project director of Carlisle programs, training and advocacy.

As an active member of the recovery community, Varner was appointed to the Citizens Advisory Committee for Cumberland County Children and Youth in 2013. She is a member of the Cumberland County Opiate Overdose Coalition and serves on The Substance Abuse and Prevention Coalition, The Local Housing Options Team and is a committee member for Swatara Township. She is a past board member of Consumer Satisfaction Services and Carlisle CARES. At the RASE Project she facilitates educational trainings, maintains the “In My Own Words” Speakers Bureau and is responsible for advocacy efforts.
