Professional Organizations

Shippensburg University/Capital Area
Association for the Education of Young Children (SU-CAEYC)

SU-CAEYC is an organization dedicated to furthering the understanding of young children and their families. Membership is open to any student at SU, but especially those in fields related to children’s development, education and care. Activities include workshops to make materials, hear guest speakers and plan service projects.

Bridge for Kids (BFK)
BFK is open to any student enrolled at SU. The organization is actively involved in providing members with service opportunities in schools, communities and through work with agencies. Members also participate in advocacy efforts to improve funding for public schools, ensure adequate government funding for programs that benefit children and to educate others about the needs of our youngest citizens.

Kappa Delta Pi

Epsilon Epsilon Chapter website

Kappa Delta Pi, an International Honor Society in Education, is dedicated to scholarship and excellence in education. The Society was founded in 1911 and has a long history of openness to both genders, different races, ethnic backgrounds, handicapping conditions, ages, and a wide variety of intellectual ideas.

As a community of scholars pledged to worthy ideals, Kappa Delta Pi:
• Recognizes scholarship and excellence in education;
• Promotes the development and dissemination of worthy educational ideas and practices;
• Enhances the continuous growth and leadership of its diverse membership;
• Fosters inquiry and reflection on significant educational issues; and
• Maintains a high degree of professional fellowship.

Keystone State Reading Association

KSRA, an affiliate of the International Reading Association (IRA), is a state-wide organization in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania comprised of individuals who are engaged in reading instruction, literacy development, and the encouragement of lifelong reading habits. KSRA believes in the importance of collaborating with other organizations in achieving its purposes and goals.

The mission of KSRA is to promote literacy through reading, provide instructional leadership, support professional development and advocate literacy issues.

Joining KSRA includes a membership in a local council. The Franklin County Reading Council meets to plan literacy experiences for teachers and pre-service teachers. A student chapter sponsors literacy experiences for local elementary children in after school activities. ($15.00 yearly membership).

The student chapter (KSRA-SU) is open to undergraduate and graduate education majors, especially reading minors and graduate reading students.

- Pennsylvania Reads, our new peer-reviewed journal, published twice a year
- Families and Reading packet mailed to all members in time to use for
- Families and Reading Month in April
- Discount on annual conference registration

Shippensburg University Education Association (SUEA)

The purpose of the Shippensburg University Education Association (SUEA) is to improve conditions of teacher preparation on our campus and in our community. In addition, SUEA has established a strong commitment toward quality education for pre-professionals interested in the teaching field here at Shippensburg University. Throughout the school year, members participate in elementary and secondary educational workshops, community service projects and educational conferences. With membership in SUEA, you will automatically become a member of our parent organizations, PSEA (Pennsylvania State Education Association) and NEA (National Education Association).

Anyone majoring in education is eligible to become a member of SUEA. There is a $25.00 membership fee and members are expected to attend meetings.
