New Tech Fee Projects Funded 2005

Smart Classroom for various departments: FSC  

Smart technology installed in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Psychology, Biology, and Physics Departments.  Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. Systems will include the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment.

Piano Lab for Music: PAC 

5 workstations along with music development software to accompany the electronic pianos for students in the Music department.

Laptops and Laptop Cart for the Learning Center: ELL135 

These 17 laptops and laptop cart provide a portable technology solution for students utilizing the Library resources. The cart provides security and charging for the laptops when not in use. Wireless Access Points were also installed to support the increase in the wireless devices being made available.

Smart technology installed in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Music Department.  Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. Systems will include the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment. 

Laptops and Laptop Cart for Business: GRH006 

These 17 laptops and laptop cart provide a portable technology solution for students in the Business department. The cart provides security and charging for the laptops when not in use. It also allows for ease of transportation of the laptops.

Upgrades of Smart Classrooms for Human Communications: DHC302, DHC310, DHC314 

Provides updated carts and other equipment required by the Smart Carts for enhancement of the Smart Classrooms in a number of rooms in the Human Communications department.

Upgrades of Smart Classroom for Business: GRH408 

Provides updated Audio/Video and other equipment required by the Smart Cart for enhancement of the Smart Classrooms for the Business department.

Upgrades of Smart Classrooms for Psychology: FSC226, FSC228 

Provides updated Audio/Video and other equipment required by the Smart Carts for enhancement of the Smart Classrooms for the Psychology department.

Digital Microscopes with Portable Carts for Biology: FSC

This setup allows for two portable workstations to run software for analyzing data from the digital microscopes, which can be easily transported to various classrooms/labs in the Biology department, providing the students with more opportunity to utilize the microscopes.

Smart Classrooms for Geography: SRH107, SRH109, SRH202, SRH205, SRH206 

Smart technology installed in the classrooms for visual and audio presentation enhancement for classroom use by students in the Geography Department.  Includes the ability to tie DVD, Internet, and Computer audio/visual aids together into one management console for presentation of course materials. Systems will include the presentation unit, a computer, data projector, DVD/VCR and supporting switching equipment. 

Computer Lab for Communications/Journalism: CUB310 

10 workstations and relevant software for the Communications/Journalism department’s newspaper The Slate. This equipment enables students working for The Slate to develop news content for publishing.

3D scanner for Computer Science: MCT165 

Provides students of the Computer Science department with technology that will allow for 3D scanning of real-world objects. The data can be exported into various graphic design programs for further review and manipulation.

Distance Education Classroom for College of Education: SPH140 

Smart Classroom and videoconference equipment installed in the classroom provides distance education to students of the College of Education. The system provides connections to satellite Shippensburg University sites for students in which distance to the main campus is problematic.

Golden Apple Lab for Art                                                             

The Golden Apple Art Computer lab provides Art students opportunities in graphic arts, desktop publishing, illustration, photo manipulation, animation, video, web development, and painting book-arts for students across multiple disciplines.

Microscopy/Imaging lab/Slow scan for Biology  

This hardware and software allows for microscopic digital image handling, analysis, and printing with the purpose of expanding research opportunities for biology students.

Presentation stations and 3D projection for Chemistry 

Provides visualization of chemistry from the simplest organic molecule to large complex bio-molecules such as DNA. The 3-D visualization system greatly enhances chemistry lectures by enabling students to view molecules and they naturally occur three dimensionally.

The Networking and E-Commerce Lab is used by senior MIS students in the COB for their capstone class learning the fundamentals of computer networks and their application in business.

This is the premier Distance Education room on campus used by the MBA program. The LCD screen helps facilitate classroom interaction with other video connected classrooms.
