Description

This file format (WMA) is the default format for certain audio capture programs - most notably the built in "Sound Recorder" in windows and/or certain smart phones.  Unfortunately macs can't natively play WMA files so there are a few options available in this case.

1.  Have the students resubmit in another file format.  They would need to find a way to convert the file themselves to either a mp3 or wav file,.  This can be achieved by searching google or they might be able to recieve assistance from the Shippensburg Helpdesk on the best course of action.

2.  Flip4Mac is a paid download (I believe $6.00) that you could get which will allow you to play WMA files in itunes.http://www.telestream.net/flip4mac/overview.htm

3.  You could convert the files yourself using a free conversion tool.  You could search google for one that might work for you but I've personally have used MediaHuman Audio Converter and found that it worked pretty well and was easy to use.  I've attached a brief guide on downloading and using the tool if you decide on this route.

4.  If you'd like to schedule a time to meet, you're welcome to come in and I'd be happy to assist you in converting the files and putting them onto a thumb drive to review later.  Let me know if you'd like to do this and we can schedule a time for you to come in.  Note:  If you did this, I would still alert your students that from now on files must be submitted in either WAV or mp3 formats so that you wouldn't have to keep coming in to convert the files.

5.  Finally, you could use a PC somewhere on campus to grade the audio files.  The default audio player on PCs will open WMA files.

I hope this was helpful, let me know what you'd like to do or if you have any questions.
