New Faculty Orientation

Each year tenure track, one-year temporary, and adjunct faculty participate in a variety of new faculty orientation programs.  These programs are designed to familiarize new faculty with SU policies and procedures, as well as create cohorts that strengthen professional relationships among all colleges and divisions.  New faculty have opportunities to meet with numerous administrators, Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) representatives, faculty, and staff throughout their first year.

New Faculty Orientation for tenure track and one-year temporary faculty is a three day orientation program scheduled from Monday through Wednesday, the week before the start of fall classes.  Adjunct faculty participate in a two-day version of the orientation program.  The orientation schedule includes sessions designed to familiarize new faculty to use the course management system, the Banner system, and the SU info system.  Subsequent training sessions are available throughout the academic year.  In addition, a Pedagogy Institute outlines effective teaching practices, assessment measures, copyright protocols, and academic dishonesty policies.  New Faculty Orientation also provides health and wellness information, payroll practices, and human resource services.  The new faculty meet with APSCUF representatives to learn about benefits and shared governance at SU and within the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE).

New faculty are assigned faculty members within their departments.  Throughout the first year, these members advise new faculty in regards to department and college expectations and culture, as well as help the new faculty member acclimate to SU and the local community.
