Diller Center Recap Spring 2023 Semester!

The spring of 2023 was an eventful and exciting time for the Charles H. Diller Jr. Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation!

The semester kicked off with the Diller Center hosting the first event of the semester, on February 16th. This event was part of the Adventures in Entrepreneurship series, where Scott Brown was the first guest. Scott is Executive Associate to the President of Shippensburg University, Chamber President for the Shippensburg Chamber of Commerce, and facilitates community events such as the Uprise and Pumpkin Festivals. The event was attended by 42 Shippensburg students, who represented different educational backgrounds.

In the next installment of Adventures in Entrepreneurship, Josh Goodman was hosted on March 23rd. Josh is an author and Founder and CEO of Pour My Beer. Josh graduated from Shippensburg and discussed grit and resilience as an entrepreneur. This event was attended by 41 students, who each received a copy of Josh’s newly released book.

In the last Adventures in Entrepreneurship event, Chad Lesher, President of CSL Materials, and a Shippensburg

Alumni, was the main speaker. This event was attended by 33 Shippensburg University students and community members. All three of these events were hosted by Professor of Entrepreneurship, Shelley Morrisette, and conducted in the style of an interview.

The Diller Center also attended the College of Business Advisory Board meeting where students highlighted their experiences with the center. Throughout the semester, the Diller Center also conducted multiple social media contests.

The Diller Center also helped to facilitate a high school open house and campus tour where a field trip bus arrived at the Diller Center first for a tour followed by a short presentation on the Entrepreneurship Major/Minor, students then were bused up to campus for a tour of the Grove College of Business, Athletic facilities, student union building and dining hall. They finished their day with lunch at the Reisner Dining Hall.

This semester Dr. Shelley Morrisette also hosted E-Expressions. This video series explores the world of business and how it operates. From the largest corporations to the smallest startups, we take a deep dive into the inner workings of the business world and uncover the secrets to success.

The Diller Center was also the Title Sponsor for the South Central PA Regional Business Summit, which was attended by 130 attendees, and provided the means to form deeper connections and the opportunity for knowledge sharing along with identified areas of continued or expanded partnerships and facilitated collaborations to grow our workforce and economic development in the region.

Finally, the Diller Center hosted Ship Tank on April 6th. This ‘Shark Tank’ style competition for Shippensburg University Students provided a chance to win from a $5,000 prize pool. 13 Student groups entered the competition, with 9 groups selected to pitch their business idea. 90+ students, faculty, and community member attended as audience members.

The Diller Center is excited about the future of entrepreneurship at Shippensburg and hopes to keep inspiring young entrepreneurs!
