Alpha Phi Sigma

Alpha Phi Sigma is the only nationally recognized honor society for criminal justice. At Shippensburg University, we are the Pi chapter of Alpha Phi Sigma. We aim to bring together the criminal justice department's brightest students to collaborate on furthering our careers. We are committed to helping our members gain opportunities to further their careers and make a more significant impact within the community.

Membership in Alpha Phi Sigma signifies your dedication to academic excellence, leadership, and unity. It allows you to join thousands of other members and alumni worldwide. By joining Alpha Phi Sigma, you gain numerous academic and professional benefits such as scholarships, grants, and job opportunities. An added bonus is you can wear special regalia during graduation to signify your distinguished status and connect with like-minded criminal justice students.

Memberships Qualifications

  • Be a criminal justice major or minor.
  • 2 GPA.
  • 4 criminal justice classes completed.
  • 4 semester hours completed.

Alpha Phi Sigma engages in various activities that students will decide on each academic year. We hold guest speakers, sponsor training, go on field trips, and do social events. A few events we have held in the past:

  • Stop the Bleed Training.
  • CPR certification.
  • Sponsored Cumberland County Forensics’ lab field trip.
  • Ice cream Social.
  • Hosted a polygraph guest speaker.

Each semester, Alpha Phi Sigma is dedicated to hosting a fundraising event to help local agencies. Here are a few examples from the past:

  • Popcorn fundraiser for Over the Rainbow Children Advocacy Center (Franklin County)
  • Little Daisy’s closet donation (Chambersburg, PA)

We are always looking to expand our member's experiences and exposure to the criminal justice field to provide insights and access to opportunities after graduation. We want to expand our membership to be a recognized organization within SGA at Shippensburg University. This would give us access to more funding to do more events and make a greater impact within the community.
