All About Dr. Shane!

Q: Do you have any pets?
A: Yes, Molly and I share our household with Frankie the Cat. She is probably 4 years old and loves to scratch one couch in particular and whine for cat treats. All things considered, not that different from humans.

Q: What is your favorite at-home hobby?  Do you have any musical, artistic, athletic, or intellectual pursuits that students might not expect?
A: I am currently dusting off my German skills by reading Hermann Hesse's Siddhartha in German. I'm also an avid road cyclist, so I've been able to do that under the current restrictions. Since I'm 50, yoga is a necessity to keep some balance with the cycling. So. Very. Sore.

Q: Do you have any wisdom to share about staying sane in a situation such as this?
A: Don't hesitate at all to make suggestions to your Professors about deadlines, assignments, clarity, etc. I doubt very many of us communicate with each other, so having lots of things due at the same time can be a problem. Let us know what we can do to support you! Oh, and find time to get away from the keyboard to get outside.

Q: What do you miss most about being on campus?
A: Easy. The students. I'm not in this business to sit behind a computer all of the time. This situation is reminding me of the wholly human nature of education. What we are doing now is fine and necessary, but in technical terms it ain't natural.

Q: What type of music do you listen to most?
A: Nothing specific and Spotify is well worth it. I'm not getting any royalties for typing that.

Q: What TV shows have you been watching lately?
A: I was a total Breaking Bad junkie when it was on. Naturally, I'm into the prequel, Better Call Saul. Bob Odenkirk is a genius and the plot line is a slow descent into corruption, kind of like Walter White.
