Honors Orientation

Summer Orientation Program

To help incoming Honors students learn about the opportunities the Wood Honors College offers to enhance their undergraduate education, freshmen Honors students participate in a two-day summer orientation program. This orientation is in addition to the regular university orientation held in July.  On-campus housing and meals will be provided.  Please note that this event is for students only.

Additional information about the orientation will be sent to students' university e-mail addresses. If you have any questions about orientation, please e-mail Ms. Cindy Poe, Wood Honors College secretary, at cmpoe@ship.edu or call (717) 477-1604.

Mentor Program

Students who are admitted to the Wood Honors College are assigned upper-class Honors students as their mentors. Mentors provide valuable academic assistance and social support. They contact their mentee during the summer and meet with them after they arrive on campus to help orient them to the university and the Wood Honors College. Mentors also host events for incoming Honors students throughout the beginning of the academic year.

"Meeting new people, learning your way around campus, and knowing the ins and outs of the university are just a few of the experiences students encounter during their transition to college. Having a mentor who has had all of these experiences and can guide you through your first year is a valuable opportunity that makes the transition much smoother. The Honors Mentor Program allows students direct access to a mentor in their major who can advise on scheduling, campus activities, and career opportunities that can help them succeed. You will meet many influential individuals during your college career, but for many of our students, their Honors Mentor remains a constant source of advice and support throughout their time at Shippensburg University."
