All-Gender Restrooms

What Is An All-Gender Restroom?

An all-gender restroom refers to a restroom in which people of all gender expressions are welcome, including people who identify as transgender or nonbinary.  They also aid people who require the assistance of a caregiver of a different gender, parents with children of a different gender, individuals with chronic illness, and people from cultural backgrounds whose bathroom practices are not traditional in the United States.

Why Are All-Gender Restrooms Important?

Many people have trouble when required to use gender-specific restrooms. Especially for transgender and/or gender non-conforming people, the use of public restrooms can lead to harassment, deep discomfort, or even physical violence.

All-gender restrooms offer an inclusive and accessible alternative that, when paired with gender-specific restrooms, helps make sure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
