Articulation Agreements

Agreements with Public Two-Year Colleges in Pennsylvania

Bucks County Community College

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • BCCC and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from BCCC to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue the completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. BCCC and SU will continue to participate in the statewide articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies.

Community College of Philadelphia

  • Dual Admissions Agreement
    • The purpose of the Dual Admission Program is to enhance and maintain the relationship between CCP students and Shippensburg University. The goal of the program is to establish Dual Admissions and, in the process, eliminate anxiety and reduce attrition that is often found with transfer shock. The Dual Admission Program provides CCP students with articulated curricula and policies that lead to a bachelor's degree at SU. Students pursue their bachelor's degree through seamless enrollment from an associate degree at CCP through upper-division coursework at SU. Students may apply for admission under the Dual Admission Program as early as their senior year of high school but no later than the completion of 30 college-level credits in a transfer program offered through CCP.

Harrisburg Area Community College

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • HACC and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from HACC to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue the completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. HACC and SU will continue to participate in the statewide articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies.

  • Degree Completion
    • Shippensburg University and Harrisburg Area Community College hereby agree to enter a collaborative relationship for the purpose of offering upper-division Shippensburg University courses and programs and selected graduate courses and programs on the campuses of Harrisburg Area Community College.

Lackawanna College

Lehigh Carbon Community College

Luzerne County Community College

Pennsylvania Highlands Community College

Allegany College of Maryland

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • ACM and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from ACM to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. ACM and SU will continue to participate in the statewide articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies.

CCC and SU will continue to participate in the articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies. CCC was granted passport privileges under this articulation agreement.

TLCC and SU will continue to participate in the articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies. TLCC was granted passport privileges under this articulation agreement.

Howard Community College

  • Institution to Institution Agreements
    • Howard and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from Howard to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. Howard and SU will continue to participate in the articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies. Howard was granted passport privileges under this articulation agreement.
  • Notice of Intent
    • This agreement serves as a supplement to the primary articulation agreement between Howard and SU currently in effect. The purpose of the Notice of Intent is to enhance and maintain the relationship between HCC students and Shippensburg University. The goal of the program is to eliminate anxiety and reduce attrition that is often found with transfer shock. The Notice of Intent provides Howard students with articulated curricula and policies that lead to a bachelor's degree at SU. Students pursue their bachelor's degree through seamless enrollment from an associate degree at Howard through upper-division course work at SU. Students may submit the written Notice of Intent to SU as early as their senior year of high school but no later than the completion of 30 college-level credits in a transfer program offered through Howard.

Middlesex County College

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • MCC and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from MCC to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. MCC and SU will continue to participate in the statewide articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies.

Raritan Valley Community College

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • RVCC and SU agree to cooperate by correlating their respective programs in order to facilitate transfer from RVCC to SU. This is intended primarily for those students who have completed an associate degree and desire to continue completion of a baccalaureate degree. This agreement will benefit students by providing current information about programs and establishing specific arrangements that will allow the students to plan a complete course of study. RVCC and SU will continue to participate in the statewide articulation process, identifying and updating individual course equivalencies.

Agreements with Four-Year Institutions

Arcadia University

  • 4+2 Masters in Physician's Assistant Studies Program
    • Arcadia University and SU entered into an agreement of an articulated program in an effort to better serve students intending to pursue a profession in Physician Assistant Studies. Successful completion of the designated course work in the 4+2 program will concurrently satisfy degree requirements for the Bachelor of Science in Biology or Chemistry at SU and will satisfy all prerequisite course work required to gain entrance into the Master of Science in Physician Assistant Studies program at Arcadia University.

Art Institutes International (In revisions as of July 2003)

  • Institution to Institution Agreement
    • This agreement provides for the transfer of students from AII schools to SU for completion of a baccalaureate degree program. SU agrees to provide current information about programs and degree requirements to AII on a regular basis and work with AII faculty to facilitate the transfer of students from an Associate Degree program to a baccalaureate degree program.
  • Junior Year Experience
    • This agreement serves as a supplement to the articulation agreement between The Art Institutes and Shippensburg University. AII and SU agree to offer a specialized degree option for junior-level Art majors at SU. Through this agreement, SU students will have the opportunity to transfer to AII for one academic year and complete an Associate Degree in an area of specialized commercial art. At the end of the academic year, the student will transfer back to SU to complete the remaining degree requirements for the Bachelor of Art degree in Art.

Duquesne University

  • Interdisciplinary Doctoral Program in Educational Leadership (IDPEL)
    • Faculty from the Department of Educational Administration and Foundations in the College of Education and Human Services at Shippensburg University, and the Department of Foundations and Leadership in the School of Education at Duquesne University will collaborate in providing doctoral studies in educational leadership for selected participants who work and reside in the traditional service region of Shippensburg University.
  • Doctoral Program in Counselor Education and Supervision (ExCES)
    • Faculty from the Department of Counseling at Shippensburg University, and the Department of Education at Duquesne University will collaborate in providing doctoral studies in counseling education and supervision for selected participants who work and reside in the traditional service region of Shippensburg University.

New York Chiropractic College

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Chiropractic
    • The New York Chiropractic College and SU have established an articulated program providing a joint undergraduate/professional program of education leading to the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic.

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine
    • The Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and SU have established an articulated program providing a joint undergraduate/professional program of education leading to the degree of Doctor of Osteopathy.

Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine - Primary Care Scholars Program

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Osteopathic Medicine
    • This articulation enables the concurrent acceptance of qualified students who are interested in becoming a primary care physician into Shippensburg University and PCOM. Students have a "seat" reserved for them at PCOM pending completion of their baccalaureate program. To remain in this program, students must maintain a 3.2 cumulative GPA, with a 3.0 in the sciences, participate in the summer preceptorship program at PCOM, and perform reasonably well on the Medical College Admission Test.

Pennsylvania College of Optometry

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Optometry Program
    • The Pennsylvania College of Optometry and SU have established an articulated program providing a joint undergraduate/professional program of education leading to the degree of Doctor of Optometry.

The Pennsylvania State University - Mont Alto Campus

  • Program-to-program articulation
    • PSU Mont Alto and SU agree to facilitate coordination of transfer credits for the teaching with technology certificate, completion of the supervisory certificate and subsequent recommendation for state certification as a supervisor in the area of technology. This agreement will benefit students by establishing specific arrangements that will allow a student to gain certification in supervision. PSU Mont Alto and SU will continue to participate in this program to program articulation and identify and update individual course equivalencies.

The Pennsylvania State University ( University Park & Harrisburg) and University of Maryland

  • 3+2 Cooperative Engineering Program
    • Shippensburg University has a five-year program in the liberal arts and engineering with the two schools above. The first three years entails liberal arts subjects and pre-engineering courses in basic sciences at SU. Provides students the opportunity to receive a liberal and technical education, allows students to make a decision regarding engineering and other disciplines, guarantees acceptance into an engineering school with a junior status at a critical time of year, and upon completion of the second phase of the program, the student receives two degrees.

Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine (Formerly Pennsylvania College of Podiatric Medicine)

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine
    • The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and SU have established an articulated program providing a joint undergraduate/professional program of education leading to the degree of Doctor of Podiatric Medicine. The Temple University School of Podiatric Medicine and SU agree to cooperate in the recruitment and training of economically disadvantaged student leading to this degree. Although not a limitation, the economically disadvantaged matriculants will participate in the existing Accelerated Podiatric Medical Education agreement.

College of Allied Health Science at Thomas Jefferson University

  • Allied Health Sciences Program
    • Thomas Jefferson University and SU enter into this agreement in order to facilitate the transfer process of students from SU to the College of Allied Health Sciences. This will enable students to enter the Bachelor of Science degree programs in the programs outlined below and all future division, baccalaureate degree programs that are offered at the College. This is a multi-faceted articulation involving the following programs:

      • Diagnostic Imaging - Multicompetency (2+2)
      • Clinical Laboratory Sciences: (2+2, 3+1)
      • (or post-baccalaureate programs, 4+1)

      • Masters Degree Programs
      • Physical Therapy Program (4+3)
      • Occupational Therapy Program (2+3, 3+3)

The articulation agreement enables qualified students to apply to TJU College of Health Professions in the manner indicated above (i.e., after their second or third year of college, or upon completion of their baccalaureate degree) and receive "preferential consideration" in the admissions review. The only students who receive a baccalaureate degree from SU ware those who complete their four years at SU, e.g., occupational therapy 4+2 students and students pursuing the post-baccalaureate programs in the clinical laboratory sciences.

This articulation also includes the P.A.C.E. program through which high school seniors apply to TJU for a position to begin two or three years after initiating a college program. During the two or three years (students have the option of choosing), student complete specific prerequisite courses at SU, and providing they maintain appropriate academic standing, automatically matriculate to TJU to complete the professional component of their degree. This early acceptance program is for high school seniors who have relatively high SAT scores (minimum SAT's vary among disciplines) and who have volunteer hours in the respective field of study.

University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy

  • 3+4 Doctorate of Pharmacy
    • The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and SU have established an articulated program providing a joint undergraduate/professional program of education leading to the doctor of pharmacy degree. This program enables qualified, participating students to earn a baccalaureate degree in either biology or chemistry from SU and a doctor of pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in a time frame that is one year less than the normal, while providing an education that is directly comparable in content.

Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg Campus

  • 3+3 Law Program
    • The two organizations enter into this agreement in order to facilitate the admission of students from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education to the Widener University School of Law, Harrisburg campus. This will provide opportunities for qualified students at any of the 14 State System universities to earn a Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree or a joint 3+3 bachelor's/J.D. degree in six years. State System students or graduates are eligible to apply to the Express Admission Program.

Agreements with Hospitals

The clinical year of the medical technology program is conducted at a hospital-based program. SU has a 3+1 articulation whereby students complete a minimum of 90 credits of specific coursework at SU, then complete a minimum of 30 credits during the clinical year. Credits are transferred back to SU allowing the student to earn their BS in Medical Technology.

SU is unique (or at least one of very few colleges) in allowing a 4+1 option. Under this option, students may elect to complete their BS in Biology or Chemistry prior to entering their clinical year. Then, after transferring back credits from their clinical year, they earn a second baccalaureate degree, a BS in Medical Technology. In essence, this is a double major, with the final year conducted at the clinical site.

Consortium Agreements

Shippensburg University is a charter member of the Marine Science Consortium, which operates a field station at Wallops Island, Virginia. Four separate three-week sessions are operated during the summer months with a variety marine science courses being offered.

Military Agreements

Servicemembers Opportunity College

Shippensburg University is an established Servicemembers Opportunity College (SOC), noted for serving the needs of National Guard, reserves, new recruits, active-duty service members and veterans of the armed forces. As an SOC university, Shippensburg agrees to meet SOC Principles and Criteria in an effort to assist service members in earning degrees.

U.S. Army War College/Carlisle Barracks Education Center

Shippensburg University maintains an MOU with the U.S. Army War College/Carlisle Barracks Education and Training Support Center to provide quality post-secondary education programs to U.S. military personnel, Federal DOD civilian employees, bona-fide dependent family members and federal retirees. Resident credit is awarded for all courses offered on post. Shippensburg University currently offers the Masters of Public Administration at the U.S. Army War College. Through this MOU, SU also agrees to honor Army Tuition Assistance and adhere to the policies as set forth by the Education Center in the MOU.
