Why a Student May Seek Counseling
College life can be stressful and at times talking to a professional counselor may be helpful. Counseling services are available to help "talk through" a relatively straight forward problem or difficulty, such as:
- Feelings of depression, anxiety, fear or confusion
- Poor study habits or difficulties with concentration
- Adjustment to college and other life transitions
- Academic and career decision-making issues
- Family problems
- Developing and understanding relationships
- Sexuality and sexual orientation
- Self-esteem
- Drug or alcohol abuse
- Eating and weight problems
- Grief and loss issues
- Recovering from trauma or abuse
Many students also seek counseling to provide continuity of counseling support services previously pursued while at home.
