Financial aid is often associated with tuition assistance, but federal, state and institutional aid can also be used to pay for room and meal plans, and can be used for books and personal expenses related to your education. Shippensburg offers five types of financial aid — scholarships, federal and state grants (grants and scholarships are gift aid that generally do not need to be re-paid), federal and alternative loans, (loans must be re-paid when the student leaves school) work-study programs (employment), and veterans' benefits.

Federal and State Grants & Special Programs
If you're like most students, you prefer to pay your way through college by receiving grants instead of loans. That's because most grants do not need to be paid back unless you fail to meet an obligation on your end. Get the answers here to questions about federal and state grants. Learn about your eligibility and how to apply for them.
Loan Programs and Counseling
Loans help you and your parents pay for your college education. The Federal government offers several different loan programs, and you can also apply for education loans via private alternative lenders such as banks as well as through an alumni program here at Ship.
Work Study
Having a job is something a lot of college students have in common. No question, it helps your financial outlook to earn money while you are a student.
Federal Work-Study (FWS) provides job opportunities for undergraduate students who are eligible to participate in need-based programs. FWS student workers can work in various departments on campus to earn a paycheck.
The America Reads/ America Counts program at Shippensburg University is a federally funded program providing students with the opportunity to tutor preschool and elementary school-aged children in reading and math. The goal of the program is to increase children’s reading and math proficiency by the third grade.

Graduate Student Financial Assistance
A graduate assistantship is an opportunity to work on campus in a research or service-oriented capacity in order to gain valuable experience in an academic discipline or higher education while earning a tuition waiver and stipend.
