Accreditation

Shippensburg University has graduate programs in Counseling and College Student Personnel that are nationally accredited by the Council for Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Graduates of CACREP accredited programs are eligible to sit for the National Counselor Examination (NCE) during the last semester of studies. That means because the accreditations, field experiences, and practicum of Shippensburg University's Department of Counseling and College Student Personnel are so extensive, students may sit for the certification tests administered by the National Board of Certified Counselors during their final semester. Upon successful completion of the National Counselor Exam, graduates of CACREP approved programs are eligible to become Nationally Certified Counselors without additional supervised experience.

Shippensburg University's graduate program in School Counseling is nationally accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Shippensburg University's Graduate Program in College Student Personnel complies with the Council for the Advancement of Standards in Higher Education (CAS).

A student who completes 60 credit hours consistent with the Department of State, Bureau of Professional & Occupational Affairs, State Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists, and Professional Counselors (Title 49.1) is eligible for licensure as a professional counselor; however, one must complete additional post-master's supervisory experience in order to become licensed.
