Accounting and Information Systems and Analytics

The Accounting and Information Systems and Analytics Department in the Grove College of Business at Shippensburg University offers a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Accounting and a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in Information Systems and Analytics.

Accounting is the keystone in the decision-making process in any organization, regardless of size. Often referred to as the “language of business,” accounting is a high-demand, high-salaried field. Our graduates are ready to explore a wide-range of career opportunities. Upon graduation with a bachelor’s or master’s degree from Shippensburg University, with at least 24 credits of accounting course work, you may take the CPA exam. To obtain a CPA license, an additional 30 credits are required beyond the BSBA degree requirements. Many of our students fulfill this requirement by pursuing a five-year BSBA/MBA program designed specifically for accounting majors. This course of study allows you to transition seamlessly from your BSBA degree to the MBA program.

Information Systems and Analytics graduates have competency in technology, business knowledge, and data analytics. These skills and knowledge allow them to help organizations identify information needs, design and implement computer information systems, and take data-driven business initiatives to achieve success. They are in high-demand and receive one of the highest salaries within any organization. Information systems empower business. Today's economic conditions have accelerated the demand for graduates with strong business operations and technical skills. Most ISA majors are able to select from among multiple job opportunities upon graduation

Master of Business Administration

Ship delivers its 30-credit MBA degree program in three convenient formats: part time, full time and online. The requirements are the same in each of the three delivery formats. You can also add a 6-credit concentration to your MBA program:

Master of Science in Information Systems

Shippensburg University’s Master of Science in Information Systems program is a joint program between the Computer Science (CS) and Management Information Systems (MIS) departments that allows you to apply information systems and technology concepts to many business and technical situations.

Student Clubs and Organizations

Accounting : This student club allows you to explore career alternatives in your area(s) of study. Professionals from public accounting, private industry, and nonprofit organizations meet with students to share their experiences and provide guidance. Club members share their academic and internship experiences with each other, and plan field trips.

Management Information Systems: The MIS professional association was formed to help business majors expand their vision of information systems. Presentations and field trips to IT departments at established firms are scheduled to further the understanding of IT related fields.

Investment Management Program: During your senior year, you may be invited to take part in the Investment Management Program class, where students manage a real-money portfolio. For more information, visit the IMP website. Outside of the classroom, the Investment Club gives you hands-on experience in managing the Ship Global Collegiate Fund. These groups have been recognized for excellence in portfolio management at regional and national competitions.

The College of Business Student Professional Organizations provide a variety of opportunities for you to develop professional contacts, enhance your course of study with hands-on application, and build lasting friendships within the business community.

Internships

Ship has a well-established Business Internship Program that provides opportunities for on-the-job experience while gaining college credits. While participation is not mandatory, students earn one full credit hour to every equivalent of a 40-hour workweek they finish. Students can receive a maximum of 9 credits.
